Expanding the Role of Philanthropy in Financing for Development

Wednesday, July 8th, 2015

On the evening of July 13 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and key partners will host an event on Expanding the Role of Philanthropy in Financing for Development. This is an official Side Event to the Third International Conference on Financing for Development.

This conference, gathering 5000 Heads of State and Government and senior representatives of business, civil society and philanthropy from July 13-16, aims to create an enabling environment for sustainable development in the spirit of global partnership and solidarity. Governments are committing to achieve sustainable development through inclusive economic growth, protecting the environment, and promoting social inclusion. This conference will contribute to a September 2015 Summit, to be held at the UN in New York, at which governments will agree the global framework to follow the Millennium Development Goals ending this year – an ambitious and transformative post-2015 development agenda, including 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Governments and others acknowledge that achieving these goals will require an ambitious, comprehensive, holistic, and transformative approach, so the Addis meeting will aim to identify actions, and address critical gaps, relevant to the post-2015 development agenda. Philanthropy has an important, more visible, and growing role to play in achieving these important goals.

The meeting will be hosted by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, the Foundation Center, the UN Development Program, the Government of Kenya, and other partners. To RSVP or for more information, please email Heather Grady at hgrady@rockpa.org or Karina Grosheva at philanthropy@undp.org.
